The symbol of Sweden - The Elk
The biggest animal in Europe, world’s biggest deer and the most famous symbol of Sweden - the Elk. The animal who can become up to two metres high and with spectacular curved horns that can grow into two metres long. They are well-recognized with brown or grey skin, a weight from 500 kilos to 900 kilos and a big mule. The elk has nowadays become a popular selling brand for visitors and rule today an own tourism industry. From t-shirts to elk-shaped pasta on IKEA, the elk continues making success all over the world.
In Sweden they can be found in the whole country accept on the island called Gotland. They are hiding in big forests, coniferous forests, often close to marshes and sometimes they even do a trip to neighborhood nearby. Usually they are harmless to humans but some situations may make the elks behave in an aggressive way. Firstly, if people come too close to a newborn elk it can make the mother afraid and angry. Another situation is when the elk is appearing in gardens, often eating apples, they may start act unafraid of people. But this is not the typical situation and warning signs often preper if elks may be found in the area. As long as the visitors keep their distance and act calm the cameras can go wild instead.
